Reckless Love

RECKLESS LOVE
Reckless sailors live in the sea
Reckless bankers live in poverty
So it is, so it is with reckless love
Reckless rat is the tomcat's lunch
Reckless driver hears the fender crunch
So it is, so it is with reckless love
So it is, so it is, so it is, So it is with reckless love
Bring down the hammer, I'm guilty
Bring down the hammer I'm guilty, guilty
Bring down the hammer, I'm guilty
Bring down the hammer I'm guilty, guilty
and there is nothing that a man can do
but go crazy for a girl like you
uh huh, reckless love
Reckless bachelor takes a wife
Reckless trucker has a jack-knife
So it is, so it is with reckless love
Reckless liar tells the truth
Reckless dentist pulls the wrong tooth
So it is, so it is with reckless love
So it is, so it is, So it is, so it is with reckless love
Bring down the hammer, I'm guilty
Bring down the hammer I'm guilty, guilty
Bring down the hammer, I'm guilty
Bring down the hammer I'm guilty, guilty
and there is nothing that a man can do
but go crazy for a girl like you
uh huh, reckless love
Reckless angels fall from grace
Reckless monkeys are the human race
So it is, so it is, so it is with reckless love
So it is, so it is, so it is
So it is with reckless love
Bring down the hammer, I'm guilty
Bring down the hammer I'm guilty, guilty
Bring down the hammer, I'm guilty
Bring down the hammer I'm guilty
and there is nothing that a man can say,
but you know it's gonna stay that way
uh huh

Gimme the Bad News

GIMME THE BAD NEWS
My wife said, “You’d better sit down, I’ve got some bad news.
I’m leaving you. I’ve found another man,
and, we’re moving down to Texas in the morning.
Please don’t cry, I hope you’ll understand.”
I said, “So gimme the ‘bad news,’
I thought you said you had some ‘bad news’?
And the news so far don’t sound half-bad to me.
Come on and gimme the ‘bad news’
‘cause if you’re thinking this is bad, bad news,
Tell me, why am I as happy as can be?
Tell me, why am I as happy as can be?”
My boss said, “Would you step into my office?
I’m afraid I have some bad news to convey.
My brother, Jim, just moved here from Chicago and I’m giving him your job. He starts today.”
My mother said, “Son, it’s time you learned the bad news.
Though our love for you is true beyond compare,
we did not give you life,
you were adopted and you’re the long lost son of a well-known millionaire.”

JANIE, TAKE A WALK WITH ME
There’s a big moon shining, yes, and I can see
Come on Janie, take a walk with me
That it’s just about as pretty as a moon can be
Come on Janie, take a walk with me
And it’s shining on the river as it runs through town
And it’s shining on the buildings darling, all around
And we’ll keep on walking ‘til the moon goes down
Come on Janie, take a walk with me
There’s a soft wind blowin’, I don’t mean to push
Come on Janie, take a walk with me
But it’s picking up the blossoms in the lilac bush
Come on Janie, take a walk with me
There’s a night bird calling and he sounds so sweet
It’s the kind of night when the lovers meet
And without you darling I am incomplete
Come on Janie, take a walk with me
Now when we get to where we’re going
We’ll be back where we started from
So we really gotta get going
If we’re gonna take our time
Take our time
All the peepers gonna sing their pretty song tonight
Come on Janie, take a walk with me
‘Cause they’re down in the mud in the moonlight
Come on Janie, take a walk with me
There’s a jet plane flying about five miles high
And we can wave to the people as they pass on by
So come on now honey
Baby my, my, my
Come on Janie, take a walk with me

Yahtzee of Love

YAHTZEE OF LOVE
I saw you across a crowded room
Our eyes met and I felt true love bloom
So I said to my heart, “Can it be? Is there finally someone for me?”
For it was a Yahtzee, a Yahtzee of love
Yes, it was a Yahtzee, a Yahtzee of love
Although I know you'll never know my name
Our perfect love will always be the same
Unsullied by loss or demand
Only one of us knows it began
For it was a Yahtzee, a Yahtzee of love
Yes, it was a Yahtzee, a Yahtzee of love
Many hearts hold sorrows
Nearly every one
Every love has its secrets
When all is said and done
My darling, I will always hold you dear
I love you more each moment you're not here
How I cherish the love that we share
You're so pretty when you're unaware
For it was a Yahtzee, a Yahtzee of love
Yes, it was a Yahtzee, a Yahtzee of love
A Yahtzee of love

Walter Peabody

THE BALLAD OF WALTER PEABODY
On a cold night in a pouring rain the stranger came to town
And he walked into the ‘Slipper’ and he laid his money down
And with one hand on his pistol and one hand on his knife
He said, “Only two things scare me boys, high places, and my wife.”
And everyone stood bug-eyed the stranger there, to see;
Then he said his name was Walter, Walter Peabody
Now Walter sold insurance and he sold insurance hard
He would catch you in the driveway or surprise you in your yard
And scare you with statistics, “If you’re fit and fifty three,
Two percent of you will die this year,” said Walter Peabody
So you’d lay awake in bed all night and wonder, “Is it me?”
His last words ringing in your ears, “Call Walter Peabody.”
Now Walter’s wife and helpmeet was a big girl, name of Sue
And she was always watching him; Her eyes a steely blue
Once she tried to have him sign up for a great big policy
“Perhaps another time my dear,” said Walter Peabody
When he found the half-burned paper then he understood her plan
Thirty times his name she’d written there in the likeness of his hand
Poor Walter met his end one night up working on the roof
Some say it was no accident, but alas, there was no proof
They say Sue took it pretty hard
She up and moved away
To a mansion in the south of France
She lives there to this day
And she took along the ladder—hung it up for all to see
“It reminds me of my Walter,” she says,
Mr. Walter Peabody.”

Kissing My Baby

KISSING MY BABY
The man at work is out to get me. He never seems to treat me right.
Although he makes me mad, I don’t feel that bad,
I know, maybe I know—
I’m gonna be kissing my baby tonight, kissing my baby tonight.
I’m gonna be kissing my baby tonight, kissing my baby tonight.
I get myself caught up in traffic. The fool behind me wants to fight.
He’s such a macho man, I smile and wave my hand.
I know, maybe I know—
I’m gonna be kissing my baby tonight, kissing my baby tonight.
I’m gonna be kissing my baby tonight, kissing my baby tonight.
When I kiss my baby I feel happy.
When I kiss my baby I say, “I don’t know but I think maybe—
Everything’s alright. Every little thing’s alright.”
Is everybody going crazy? It’s rich and poor and black and white.
The world is going mad, but I don’t feel that bad.
I know, maybe I know—
I’m gonna be kissing my baby tonight, kissing my baby tonight.
I’m gonna be kissing my baby tonight, kissing my baby tonight.
